Had the dog out today. Birds moving from winter to spring areas. After a tough winter good to see some birds. 5 finds today. 2 pairs of Huns, 3 groups of sharptails.

We have zero open ground here and 10 more inches on the way. I am so sick of snow shoes just to take the pups for a run!

Got into some more today in a different spot. 3 nice finds on sharpies and ran over top of a hun. Supposed to get 20-30 inches of snow starting tomorrow.

Snow is gone and finally getting some work in. Hopefully get after some snow geese this weekend and keep prepping for master tests

How/where do you like to catch pigeons? I don’t have a place to keep a coop, but catching a couple on the weekends would be a good idea to keep my dog tuned up.

im in construction so i have a relationship with all the local lumber yards. If they are close to a town you can catch some there. anywhere with semi open buildings, bridge overpasses.

I catch them at farms. They are really easy to catch in the dark and you will rarely be told no.

I live in South Dakota. If you see some while driving around just go ask business owner or land owner if you could catch some. Go at night with a long fishing net and burlap sack. You can just scoop them off the rafters with a net. Go when there is no moon. They will fly if it is s moonlit night.

Small pet carriers work great to transport them in as well. I usually snag a bunch and they're good for a day or two in the carrier. Keep it out of the sun obviously. I use a big musky net. It's seen exactly 3 musky and at least 300 pigeons, so I guess it's a pigeon net..

Have you ever successfully trapped them? Or just using a net?
There's some pigeons I'd like to catch but they live up in the top of a silo

For about $40 and an hour of your time you can make your own pigeon traps with 1x2 welded wire. Find an overpass or barn with pigeons and catch your own training birds. Pigeons are not hard to trap just takes a little patience. You can keep them in a smaller crate/cage for few days. Whole corn is excellent pigeon bait.
