This is a field evaluation of the Tract Toric Ultra HD 3-15x50mm. This scope was sent to me from from Ryan Avery for evaluation. It was sent to him from a forum member. The ammunition used was Hornady Black 168gr AMAX that was purchased by Ryan. The 20 round proof group was just over 1.1 MOA.

Drop Evaluation RTZ and “Tracking”

For an explanation see- Scope Field Eval Explanation and Standards

The “test” consists of three 18” drops on a mat- one left/right/top with a shot to check zero after each drop. Then the exact same thing repeated from 36”. Then three drops on all three sides for nine drops on the last part- 15 drops total. This is not “abuse”. The 18” drops are a joke really. The 36” start showing something. And when a scope make/model consistently goes through the whole thing without losing zero, failures in actual use are almost unheard of.

This one was conducted on soft unpacked snow and a 1/2” padded mat.

Mounting as normal- 18 in-lbs on ring caps, 65 in-lbs of base.

Zeroing went without issue. Boresighted, fired one round (high left of center dot), guessed at the distance due to reticle, adjusted and ten rounds on the left dot.

One final adjustment of up .25 and left .5 moa.

Drop Eval:

The shots are marked, but the first 18” drop left side seemed to shift POI .5 MOA left, then held for right and top 18” drops (all in the 1.5” orange dot). Left side drop from 36” shifted POI left around 6”. Right side drop brought it back to about 3” from center. Top drop is 12 o’clock above dot. 3x3 36” drops is far left top impact.

Confirmed that scope was high 3.75 MOA and left 6.5 (aimed at center dot, hit far high left shot). Remounted scope, rezeroed (center dot). First two rounds are the two 1 MOA high of center dot, adjusted down 1 MOA and right .25moa, and fired the round that hit center. Then did one 36” drop on top- that shifted POI high 3 moa.

Results-
Zeroing and initial function went fine, drop eval was a fail. 36” drops were a total failure.

Note:

This was a used scope. It showed ring marks from previous mounting before I received it from vertical split rings.

I have written previously about the major issues with vertical split rings and the damage they do to scope tubes and this is a good example of it. If the scope had showed any signs of not working properly before the drops, it would have been sent back without evaling. I can not say with 100% certainty that the scope tube marks didn’t hurt the scope, however before and after the drops the scope functions fine- adjusting and zeroing without issue. It’s just doesn’t take drops or impacts at all.

A bite on the ring marks-

The scope was installed by the member with Warne rings purchased from Tract for that scope. The rings and scope were mounted using the specs provided in the Tract instructional video on their website. The member later removed the scope and noticed the ring marks and contacted Tract. Tract acknowledged that the video was incorrect with respect to the torque for the rings (the recommended torque in the video was too high). Tract offered to immediately replace the scope, or at any time that it was later determined that the ring marks were more than cosmetic.

Again, it does not seem to effect function or the results, but I will retest if the scope gets looked at.
