Toe box/foot swelling room? How much?

How much room do you leave in the toe box or along the sides? I have a little wider foot and always seem to buy boots too long to accomodate my short fat foot. What is everyones preferred space at the end of the boot?

If u can try a pair of keen Milwaukee soft toes. You can order them from zapos and if you don't like them return them. Thay are well made with a large toe box. They are also pretty stiff and hard to bend or twist like all good mountain boots. I have them in steel toe for work. I'm
going on 7 months with no signs of failure. I woek 6-7 days a week in a mill and on my feet all day. I think you can get them for around $130. I think you will be shocked when you try them. Robin

I like a boot/hiker where nothing moves but the toes. As for toe box room, Keen has the largest I have seen yet.

I was more askin about how much room between the toes and the of the boot. I seem to always have a boot feel long.

I struggle with this as well.

My kenetreks fit extremely well except for my toe box area. They squeeze my toes in where as they should have extra room to spread out. I've been hoping to trade for a new set of boots this year but I've already got 200+ miles on these and I just don't have the money right now.

It's best to try on boots at the end of the day when your feet are at their biggest (swelling). If your boots don't "feel right" they probably don't fit, the boot should feel like a big hand holding your foot. As long as the toes aren't rubbing or banging in the toe box they should be okay. What type of boots do you have now?

Its a new pair of Zamberlans. I have a really short fat foot. They feel great everywhere but just feel long. Its how much toe length room is too much? It can become challenging when on ledges or smaller footing and the toe of my boot catches but my toe doesnt. Ive dealt with this a lot in the past and have sucked it up. I just have never found anything short & fat enough.

I usually try to leave about a thumb width from the end of my big toe to the end of the boot on the inside. This allows your toes to not hit the end when going downhill. Thats just what I do but I also use a boot that is a little less stiff to allow for more manuverability and sneaking or rolling my foot a little when I feel a stick of something that may make noise.
