I have a tikka T3 in 300 win mag. I am trying to find factory ammo to hunt with. Hornady had told me the 200g eld-x may not work with the 1:11 twist. So that being said has anyone had luck with factory ammo in the 200g weight? This rifle i would like to be set up to shoot 180g or larger.

If you don’t reload, I would try a box of the 200 gr Precision Hunters. People in the linked thread were shooting 200 gr and 212 gr ELD-Xs.

That was what i had planned on shooting. I emailed Hornady and this is the reply i was given. see attachment

I think its still worth trying if that's the bullet you want. I have a 300wsm tikka with same twist and it shot the 200gr terminal ascent the best out of all the 180-200gr that I tried. It also like the 185 bergers. Never tried the precision hunter as I didn't want to use the eld-x. But every gun I've shot the precision hunter ammo in has shot excellent

Thanks for the info. Your right just grab a box and try them out. The gun is at the shop getting the barrel threaded and a brake installed. cant wait to test it out

I havent shot mine a ton at long ranges with factory loaded 200 eldx but i can hit 100,200,300,400 no problem then I go to 600 and it starts getting a lot harder to hit the target as consistently as I can with my other guns. I feel like it's the bullet losing stability after 400 yards. I was going to switch to 180s but ammo prices went insane and I havent bought any.

200 grain will work potentially. Try the hornady or the federal Terminal Ascent. But in reality and 180-200 should be just fine. It’s been a standard for a long time at 1/11 twist. Worth a try if you find some. Also try at other ranges your thinking or want to shoot to.

Hornady and Federal told me that the testing they had with the 200g TA and the eld-x was with a 1:10 twist. They were not confident a 1:11 would stabilize at longer range with factory ammo. Not exactly the news i wanted but i am confident i can find a 180ish factory load with a high BC to fly accurately down range. Now i want to get into the reloading game and that is an entirely new rabbit hole i am not sure i want to go down at the moment.
Thank you for everyone who replied. Now i just need to find ammo in this crazy market

Would any of these work for you?

How often are you going to shoot it? Might be worth having someone reload you a few different bullets and seeing what works.

Have a t3 superlite in .300 WM that i bought new in 2016. Loved the 180 gr SSTs from Hornady but now is setup for the Berger 215 hybrids and shoots around 1/2MOA. I know others have said eldx but mine absolutely hates the 200 gr eldx so probably barrel to barrel dependent.

You may want to try the 180 Norma Bondstrikes on normashooting.com. I reload but have heard really good things about this ammo. If nothing else you end up with Norma Brass which costs almost 2$ per case right now. I think its like 50$/box so all in all not a bad deal and free shipping if you buy more than 3 boxes (at least it was).

just went to the website and they are sold out. This is typical i guess. got on the wait list. I am very interested in the norma ammo. sounds like it should be a killer!

I have an 11 twist T3x 300 win mag and live at 3200’. No apparent issues stabilizing the 200 eldx Precision Hunter that I’ve seen and they shoot very very well in my rifle. Performance on two bears and a bull was about what you’d expect. Dead critters.
