Tikka extended magazine - is it uncomfortable to hand carry?

Hello,

I'm debating getting a second magazine for my Tikka 7mm Rem Mag. I currently have the original which only holds 3 rounds down.

I often hand carry my rifle and find it easy to carry with my hand covering the magazine which only slightly sticks out the bottom.

I'm debating about getting the larger extended magazine which will hold 4 rounds down but am wondering if this will become awkward to hand carry as it will stick quite a bit further out of the rifle.

I can't find much info regarding Tikka's extended magazines and whether ppl find them useful/worth it or not.

Thanks,
RSC

I have the extended mag for my Tikka and in some ways I prefer it. It gives a bit more secure grip by allowing a built in “stop” to keep the rifle sliding out of your hands in really rough terrain. I have both and use both. The extended mag has never felt uncomfortable or cumbersome and it is nice having the extra capacity.

I use the extended mag and just hold my rifle differently. It does make a difference compared to the factory standard mag.

I bought one then saw a video of a guy who said it flattened the nose of his bullets. I thought that was unlikely but it did the same to mine. 6.5 PRC for reference.

Good to hear that a couple guys like them. I think I'd definitely like the extra capacity even tho I hope I don't need to use it all.

Weird that it would flatten the nose of your bullets compared to the standard mag.

Anyone have a pic of one that shows how far out it sticks and what it's like to hand carry?

I don't have a dog in this fight, per se, as I don't have a Tikka. I do like the lines of the Tikka, so from an aesthetics standpoint it is a downside to my eye. From a carrying standpoint, a flush bottom just seems like the way to go. The pic in post #7 (yes, 5 rd round mag) would be a non starter from that standpoint. From a shooting standpoint, a 4th round in the mag (5th one fired) seems like a solution in search of a problem. Magnum rifles from the last 3/4 century or more have had 3 round magazines, and served millions of hunters well.

However you choose, you will enjoy it because it is YOUR rifle.

I like mine on my T3 in 243 Winchester. I don’t find it a hindrance at all. This is a varmint rifle. I don’t have one on my T3 30-06 elk rifle. That’s only because I don’t plan to shoot more than three times and weight is more important to me with that rifle.

When elk hunting I carry a second 3 round magazine in my front pocket though I have never needed more than 2 rounds in 16 years of hunting with it. I have an extended magazine in my T3 .223 used for coyote hunting, it seems comfortable to partially grip the magazine.

I have an extended mag for my 6.5 CM T3X. Never had an issue carrying it nor having it smash plastic tips on the ABLR.

I regularly use it when hunting coyotes. Nice to have it when taking out (or at least attempting to) multiple coyotes who are bolting.

If you’re potentially on the menu, having an extra round or two in your magazine can be nice.

I tried a 5 round mag in my T3x (6.5cm) and I don’t like carrying it that way. I keep a second 3 round mag in my bino harness if I need more than the 3 in the rifle.

The magazine that smashed tips for me was the tikka OEM 5 round and it did it if you fired a round and there were other rounds in the magazine.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has the problem under those circumstances.

I hate carrying my 300 wm w the 4 round mag. Very uncomfortable for the way I carry. But I keep it full of rounds and easily accessible as a back up.

Mounted right in front of the ejection port on my T3x & it gives me an extra 2 really convenient rounds.
