Tikka Action

Recently bought a Peak 44 stock and 18” cf barrel but need an action. Is everyone buying “donor” rifles or is there a place to buy tikka actions for an actual discount from a whole rifle?

Anyone got an action for sale?

J&A Outdoors sells standalone actions.

It's more economical to buy on Eurooptic sale, and sell the take off barrel and stock. If you have the equipment and means to remove the factory barrel.

Agreed ^^^. The price of an action alone is just as much as (and sometime more) a complete rifle. Sell a few parts from the rifle to help off set the cost a little.

Also - take a peek in the classifieds. There have been a few Tikka actions for sale, but again, $$$. Might be able to make a trade?

Like the others said, you'll be money ahead buying a complete rifle for $650-700 and selling off the barrel and stock. That's what I've done on both of mine so far.

Or buy it in a cartridge you want to shoot, or something you can re-chamber to what you want to shoot. There are a lot of really good barrels getting tossed aside that probably shoot just as well as what they’re replaced with. As the cost of pre-fits continues to climb, the cost of rechambering tikka factory barrels is looking pretty attractive now that they are twisting many of them right.

Just buy a 1:8 243 (so the barrel is desirable) if you've got the tools to yank and swap. If not, you can get got by JA I suppose.

What cartridge are you going with?

Well like a lot of things, I bought first and thought later. It’s a 7mm blank. Had I used my head I would have passed and grabbed a 6.5 probably. I’m trying to build a lite rifle that my kids can easily shoot and hunt with and is pleasant to take to the range. I will more than likely sell the 18” proof blank and grab a 6.5 somewhere.

Since you are just after an action, look for a used T3. It is my understanding that the only difference between a T3 and a T3x action is the ejection port is slightly bigger on the T3x.
Find the correct bolt face in an undesirable caliber and go from there.

Remember hearing somewhere that UM was in the process of manufacturing a Tikka clone. Definitely feel like there is market for something like this. I would be first in line for a reasonably priced (similar to Rem 700 clones) Tikka based custom action.
