Looking at Tikka T3x Lite today and noticed it’s an 1/11 twist. After some research I noticed that all the Tikka 308 are 1/11.
My RAP 308 is a 1/10 and seems to be very forgiving as far as bullet weights go. Could I expect the same from the Tikka? What’s the upper weight range that everyone has been using? Thanks.

You should be good to shoot any bullet you'd realistically like to use in a 308. even the 210gr Berger VLD only recommends a 1:11 twist, though that wouldn't be my first choice.

I agree. I’ve dug into it a little more and 11 seems more than sufficient for normal 308 bullet weights. I’m thinking 180 and down would work just fine. Thanks.

My 30-06 is 1/11. I’ve had no trouble getting good accuracy out of it but I don’t really mess with long heavy bullets in the 06. Mostly just 180g partitions and accubonds.

I’ll admit that the 1/11 caught me off guard and I kinda got caught up in the need for the fastest twist I could get. After posting this I started looking into it from a more practical perspective and I’ve come to the conclusion (as most already knew) that the 1/11 is just fine in a 308.
I appreciate everyone’s patience with an under educated question. 😁

I’ll know for sure if 1/11 works or not this weekend. Brought it home this morning. Thanks everyone.

People make a big deal about the 1-11” twist 30cals without ever firing a shot. The 308 will stabilize the Hornady 208gr ELD-M fine, and we shoot 215gr Bergers in 300WM.

I agree. My question got in front of my research. After looking I’m right where I need to be. For sure.
Rail and vertical grip should be here Friday. 🤞

I don’t want to hijack your thread but it seems like the 1:11 twist for a 308 is good to go.

I’ve been scratching my head about why Browning uses a 1:12 twist in the X-bolt 308s. I’m assuming it’s ok, as I haven’t seen any complaints on the web and plenty of people shoot 308 X-bolts.

No worries on the hijack.

Just to clarify. I did some looking last night and believe that 1/11 is completely GTG for my 308. I made a mountain from a mole hill before I looked into it. I think it’s going to shoot great.

I'd prefer a 1-10 in my -06, but that's because I like shooting copper.

In lead it's a non-issue.

People make too big of a deal out of the 308 twist. I shoot 208 Amax out of my M700 308 12” just fine.
