I know the RSS is a Tikka, but I didn't want to deal with chopping and threading a Tikka, so I picked up a Gen 2 Ruger Ranch in 5.56. It's not a bad rifle and the accuracy is decent, although not extraordinary...

But it's rough...

The bolt is rough...

The finish is rough...

It does what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't do anything in a spectacular way.

Lately, I've been looking at the Franchi All-Terrain as a shorter-barreled option and hope someone here has experience with them.

It already has a threaded 18" barrel with a 1/8" twist.

It takes AICS magazines, which is a big perk since I have a dozen or more.

If you do, how's the handling and accuracy?

Are there any issues to be aware of?

It seems like there aren't many made or at least very few available when looking online.

Is there any reason to forget the Franchi and just go with a Tikka?
