I let my arrow fly only minutes after legal light. Not sure that anyone else was so blessed and lucky!
But honestly I've been trying on and off since I was 14 to get an elk, any elk on the ground.
In the recent years I went to a longbow and started to learn how to mountian hunt.
Lost a bull last year so this year was redemption!

I switched up my bows and arrows this spring and lost 10% of my body fat.

We'd made a plan to go on a mission to a honey hole we found last year.

Well this guy was just off the trail at 40 yards about 10 min after legal light.

I have a 60 yard range at home and have been shooting a Solo target since May and new I could make it.

With no time to range find I made a good instinctive shot! He didn't go maybe a hundred yards.

He's not the biggest bull... But he was the biggest I could find with only hunting for eight minutes!

Good job nice bull. What is your set up, and how as the penetration at 40? I'm taking the recurve for the first time this year and am trying to figure where I should cut myself off at.

Great write up. The more elk we kill the more im convinced it's not about the calling or tactics as much as it is the physical and mental conditioning. Get in early, go far, come out late and you will be rewarded. Great job on the bull and physical accomplishments as well. It will be etched in your minds eye forever.
