Tents comparable to Cabelas Bighorn 3

Realizing this site is geared more towards backpacking, I figured there would still be good advice on this topic.

I am potentially looking into larger tents that would be wood stove compatible.

I have researched some on the Cabelas Bighorn 3 and Alaknak and those seem to be a good option for what I'm looking for, that being said are there other options that would be comparable?

The intended uses would be:
1- My Dad's knees are shot and while he can't make long hikes he could do small excursions from a base camp setup for hunting, etc.

2- Take on family camps where we setup in a group with basically car camping and/or ATV trips some winter stuff.

3- Boy scout camp outs in summer/winter again not far from cars.

Thanks for thoughts.

I am partial to canvas wall tents for any and all of those applications. Davis Tent's monthly special right now is a 14x16 with the angles for $799. That's a good deal.

I just bought a cabelas Alaknak last summer and have sold it already. I had a stove in mine which I loved, the only problem was that the condensation was terrible. In the mornings when we would fire up the stove it would start dripping on us like rain. I would recommend getting canvas. I am looking at a Kodiak Canvas 10x14 Deluxe and may have a stove jack sewn in. My friend has one and there is no condensation problems at all. Good luck in your search.

I have a big canvas wall tent and I like it for when I'm spending more than a few days in one place. The down side is they take longer to set up and take up alot of space in the truck. I hunted recently with a friend that had a tipi for a shorter 3 day hunt and really liked it. Im hoping to get a tipi and liner for next year. The tipi packed really small compared to a canvas tent and had one pole. The down side is they are pricey

I've had a bighorn for a few years and use it for both hunting and family camping. It works pretty well. I've never had any issues with condensation either. This thing has so many vents in it there's little chance for that happening. In fact thats my only major complaint. It's so vented that you can't hold heat in the thing. I stoke a good fire before bed but also have a buddy heater that runs all night for once the fire burns out. When it's really cold I get up in the middle of the night to stoke the fire. I keep threatening to plug or cover half the vents just haven't done it yet. The vestibule is a must have and comes in really handy!

Another vote for Kodiak Canvas...mine has held up well, great product and great customer service. When they upgraded their poles they sent me the new ones free without even asking if I wanted em.

Two buddies and I went in on a 12x14' wall tent from Kirkham's in Salt Lake City, UT. Can't remember the fabric we went with but it wasn't the fire retardant or water proof. Went with the smaller of the two stove options and would go bigger if doing it again. Can fit three cots, gear, small cook table and folding table somewhat comfortably. Have been through rain, snow, and high winds; held up great. A bit more time to prep the site and set up but after spending a hunt freezing in 3-season tents this is much more comfortable.

Just another option.

Interesting topic.. I've been looking for a large shelter with a stove for similar usage. After spending a few nights in a 6 Man Tipi I'm debating a 12 man Tipi. So much easier to set up and lighter than my Dad's famous canvas base camps.. Still not sure what I will do though... ;)

I have a Cabelas bighorn ll. Bought it new 7 or 8 years ago. Added the vestibule a couple of years ago, also have the wood stove in mine. The thing is bombproof and I could not be happier with it. I have road out numerous snow-rain typical spring storms.
