So I grew up in Colorado and grew up fly fishing but I’ve never fished the Taylor river. A long time friend is coming to town and we are meeting up in Almont CO. Any suggestions for fishing there this time of year? Is it going to be so busy it will be frustrating? I’m more of a get away from the crowds kind of guy but I do want to fish the Taylor at least once in my life.

I don’t know if the high water will allow for the fishing to be any good but most everything by me is super blown out

It's a tailwater, decent chance it's not too blown out, check the reservoir level vs their target for summer.

Flows below the res are around 300 cfs right now: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/09109000/#parameterCode=00060&period=P7D

Dunno if you're still in Colorado but we had a ton of rain the past 48 hours on the front range anyways, not sure about Gunnison area. Huge snowpack year overall statewide and pretty much any river that isn't a tailwater is blown out pretty good and only gonna get worse moving into runoff. Sticking to tailwaters or lakes is your best bet right now IMO despite the crowds.

Oh and as far as tips, I haven't fished it personally but this time of year, I'd have a lot of baetis and caddis nymphs and ermergers loaded up, along with midges.
