Looking for a tarp for my day hunting incase need to use for glassing to get out of rain or incase need to spend the night. Would like something light weight , cheap , durable and used with a treking pole . Thanks

Kifaru sheep tarp should fit the bill. Can be set up virtually anywhere and in many different configurations. I wouldn't use it as my primary shelter, but a night or two here and there wouldn't be bad. I would definitely roll with a bivy as well if there is any chance of spending the night.

Integral Designs Siltarp2.

Mine is about ten years old now and has been abused that whole time.

I've used to place quarters on in burn zones. Covered meat poles. Covered kitchen areas in storms. Slept under it many times. Ground tarp in snow. Riverside lunch breaks on fishing floats. Covered caches. And I'm sure there are more examples. And after ten years it is still going strong.

I've learned to love my Paratarp as a tent but my tarp and peg kit are always in my pack.

I just picked up a GoLite poncho tarp for this application. I used an USGI one for years, but this one is much lighter.

Looking to fit just you under it in case of spending the night or and a hunting partner?

Bought the Kifaru Sheep Tarp for the same reasons you are wanting a tarp. I found it light and compact enough to pack it in the day pack every day as a way to get a break from the rain and as insurance if I had to spend the night on the mountain. In a pinch, my two partners and I could sit under it and enjoy lunch and a coffee or prolong a glassing session. It was better than having nothing. Whatever tarp you go with, I would recommend setting it up in the field and practicing to get efficient with it. I attached small s-biners to the ends of my guy lines so that I could quickly move them to different guy out points on the tarp to facilitate different pitching configurations. Btw, the MSR Groundhog tent stakes worked really well with the tarp.

Not sure how much you want to balance light and cheap, but here are a couple quality but less expensive options and I plan to carry one for the very reason you list next fall. It is in my day pack all the time; if I go to the woods, it goes with me.

The MEST from Bushcraft Outfitters is a solid tarp. What is in stock is hit and miss but the quality is very good. The MEST is 5x7.

OR

The Etowah MUST tarp. This is much like a TAG bags vs Caribou bags thing. An acquaintance of mine was involved in the development of the MEST tarp and Etowah was making them. Lo and behold along comes the MUST tarp. 5x8 and with stakes and line. Good tarp though. I also just noticed for an extra $19 you can upgrade the MUST to silnylon and cut the weight in almost half.
