T1X 22 vs 17

I’m gonna pick up a T1X. Mainly for plinking, rimfire fun, but will ride around with me as a truck gun. Just having a hard time deciding between the two calibers haha
Pros of the 22 are cheaper and very plentiful ammo.
Pros of the 17 is extended range..

Something about a brick of 500 for $20 is still cool. If you’re just shooting. Shoot for cheap. My 2 cents.

My kiddo loves his modified t1x in 22.

A 17 HMR definitely hits prairie dogs and rockchucks harder, whereas they seem to just run off and die with the 22 lr.

If you're looking for more high volume shooting, I would go 22 lr.

One other minor consideration. If you plan to ever shoot suppressed. It’s very simple to find sub sonic 22 ammo which when shot makes nearly zero noise. Have really enjoyed shooting steel targets out the back yard at 50yds with subs.

The average 17 is more accurate, much flatter, and more energy on target.

The only three reasons to get a 22lr are for high volume practice to save money, protecting 22lr rated range targets, and using without ear plugs. I’m evenly torn for young shooters - they need cheap practice, but if they like shooting at long range, like I did as a kid, higher ammo price might be worth it.

I love a 17hmr. It's no plinker though. Least not these days My 22's get shot a hell of a lot more than my 17's

If you could find one a CZ 457 Combo, they came from the factory with 22lr and 17 HMR barrels, would cover all of your rimfire needs. Kind of like having the best of both worlds in one setup. Initial purchase cost is slightly more but a lot less then buying then outfitting/scoping two separate rifles.

I’m completely the opposite.

T1x 22 suppressed is my main tree squirrel rig. 17hmr is for the occasional groundhog, or muskrat.

It will only outpace my 22 for my first prairie dog outing.

They are both excellent, so I’m in the get both camp.

If you plan to buy a suppressor, get the 16” .22. With subs, very quiet.

If a suppressor isn’t in your plans, I say .17HMR. Much greater range and effectiveness.

That or buy both.

No doubt about the efficacy of the 17 vs 22. I make right now kills with the 17 that I wouldn’t with the 22. Some of these nutes get big. These are all one-shot kills. If you don’t get DRT they will almost always make it to cover.

















Haven’t tried eating any. Bald eagles love ‘em.

I’ve belonged to a range that had a great .22 LR steel range setup all the time and that was a big reason I didn’t get a .17 HMR. Lots of ranges have good NRL22 leagues and have steel ready to go.

17 HMR gets moved over to centerfire steel because of velocity so often you end up just shooting the 100 yard plate with .17 hmr or 200 yards with no wind.

Is that a B&C stock? If so, how do you like it?
