Anyone own one looking for some feedback found a good deal on a traverse and would like to hear impressions charge time how long it lasts on a charge and how the gps works.

Thanks

I would like to hear some real world use of the traverse as well. I have been looking at those since I use mostly map and compass for navigation and use the gps just to verify my location. My old unit issued suunto watches to us that had an altimeter but not the gps, I can't recall the model since it was ten plus years ago. They sure were nice and the batteries lasted a good while. The batteries were not rechargeable though.

i find REI shoppers pretty chatty about gear. quick search showed 1 day battery life using the GPS.

Not answering your question, but here is the rig I put together and it replaced my Ambit and I am real happy with it. About half the Traverse price too.

Garmin Fortrex 401 - Replaced their band with a Military extra long band (EBay) $149.00
Suunto M9 Compass slid onto the band. $29.00
Garmin Heart Rate Chest band $45.00

I get two compasses - One electronic and one magnetic
Tracking
Trip Measurement - Distance, Pace, Fastest
Time
Heart Rate
Way Point Marking
Several other features like elevation gain/loss etc.
Very accurate GPS coordinates
Uses AAA batteries
I can run about 20 hours on Lithium Batteries

Can get your GPS coordinates, choose your azimuth, then turn off GPS and use the M9 to head to your next point and stretch batteries.

Ron this sounds like an excellent setup I ended up buying the traverse will give it a few months use and report back but your setup sounds great.

So I have had the Traverse for about a week now. Im a believer. Easy to use setup was a breeze and its easy to navigate. love the flashlight feature already used that a few times. because of the weather lately I havent gotten out to use the GPS yet. But Ive fired it up a few times and i was seriously impressed how fast it found the satellite signal. Id say if your on the fence go for it.

SHTF, it's been a couple of months. Do you still recommend the Traverse? I'm thinking I might go with the Traverse Alpha. What do you think?
