Got the Travers and really like the watch but never use the gps. If I need gps, I use my Garmin Rino; it is far more feature rich for what I use a gps for...mainly hunting the backcountry.
I picked up a Garmin GPS watch... for me.. it was a complete waste of time. The compass was not that accurate.. the GPS is so small not worth it. Also, to look at it you need to hold up your wrist. I am a computer guy but the menu was also confusing. I returned the watch ASAP.
I use my phone .. they have more accurate compass apps.. also with ONX maps you have a better GPS screen and can see many details. Buy a small external battery to charge the phone if necessary.
Instead I picked up a NITE watch. They are Tritium Illuminated so always glow in the dark even without shinning a light on the watch face. Love that watch and use phone for GPS, etc.
I have one and don't use the GPS or anything other than looking at the date/time or sometimes hit the light switch to let me know how much time I have left to sleep in the middle of the night... None of the functions you buy a watch like this for are very accurate.
I've got a Traverse, only use the GPS to track run distance and elevation. It's a good watch but the pins that hold the band are tiny and I've nearly lost the watch multiple times after snagging the watch on my pack (taking it off or putting it on) and having the pin pull out of the watch body. For a biggish, expensive watch, Suunto sure went cheap on the band pins.
What do u intend to do with the watch? That is pretty important info left out.
I have an ambit 3 vertical and have had it for several years. Wear it everyday and have no reservations about it but most watches in this category now have many more features than watches of 5-7 years ago.
I bought mine for triathlon training and still use it for runs and swim. Bike has a computer so don’t use it much for that.
I have a garmin instinct and really like it when elk hunting. I use it most when hiking to a specific spot. I know the elevation, general direction and distance of the spot (wallow on a map, clearing, saddle etc.), with a glance at the watch I know how far I have traveled and if I am at the appropriate elevation and my direction of travel. By doing this I don't have to keep pulling out the phone/gps until I feel I should be to the spot I want to be. Heck most of the time I am there and never have to use my phone/gps
When I mark a spot on the watch it seems to be pretty accurate when I come back to it... Heck it is just a watch to get me close enough to know I am there,, I am not hunting a specific rock on the ground with it..
