Suppressor on a sporter barrel?

I have several that are threaded 9/16-24 and use a Precision Armament adapter with no issues.
Yeah. Not the end of the world. I use tbac CB setups on my 9/16” barrels and ideally I’d save some weight with the srs adapters but they don’t make them in 9/16 so heavy tbac adapters it is.

As I'm researching and learning about suppressors, I'm being told that putting a direct thread suppressor on a sporter weight barrel is kind of a no-no.

Something about a shoulder behind it for alignment. This makes sense plus the steel being thin and not allowing much metal for strength.

Is this true?

I just measured 0.667" with cheapie calipers so I wouldn't trust it to the thousandth but it's close enough to chat about.

Can this barrel be threaded? 7mm Rem Mag 23" barrel. Not a ton of taper. Even at 16" the barrel only measures 0.690
My Savage BMAG .17 WSM has the sporter barrel and does just fine with my suppressor.

I did 9/16-24 threads on my 7 mag tikka that was smaller diameter than that (20" lite profile). Used the precision armament adapters to bring it to 5/8

I use the PA adapters on everything since I prefer skinny barrels. They are cheap and precise

The one on the right is a Kimber Montana barrel, the one on the left is a tikka. I’ve also got another few fluted tikkas with the same thing. No issues.

My X Bolt Mountain Pro has a 24" sporter profile barrel. It came threaded for a brake which I promptly removed. It works great with a can. The only modification I needed was to buy a metric direct mount for the can.
