Stuck case

First one. Uggh! Tried the drill and tap and bolt trick with the die upside down in the press. No luck. Just pulled through the threads. What else?

What frustrates me most is I had plans to go to the range tomorrow and needed to load ammo. So much for that, unless you guys have any other brilliant ideas.

Did you get the decap stem out of the way. If so, you can take a narrow punch or screwdriver and drive it out. Just watch your threads

Yes, De capping pin has been removed. But the problem is there’s a big hole in the case head where I drilled it and tapped it 1/4–20, trying to bolt tighten it out.

If you can catch what’s left of the inside of the case you might can drive it out. Not sure I’ve had one strip out using a stuck case remover

5/16” tap and bolt?

Put it in the freezer. Brass can shrink quicker and i think more than steel.

If that doesn't work get some cerrasafe (google it). You will need to plug the hole you drilled.

Imperial Case wax. And apparently not enough of it!

Dang Imperial wax is my fav. It does take me more than a smear on .308 and larger. I keep thinking about the lanolin lube trick.

If it's a Lee die, you can log on to the Lee Precision website and they have a video in their support section that shows how to remove a stuck case. Only caveat is that it is specific to Lee dies due to how they are made.

The problem is I can’t get anything big enough to go through the bushing and case mouth and not go through the hole in base.

Is the decap rod in it still and can you tap it to 5/16 and have a bolt handy?

If the decap rod is out, teflon the bolt or use an oring to seal the head, fill with diesel, soapy water...etc through the neck and insert anything you have that can half ass seal the space between the threads and whatever you have to work with.....dowel, roll punch, taped up 1/4 drive extension....doesn't need to be tight, but snug helps. Insert the "piston" give it a whack and use hydraulic force to move it and lube it at the same time.

After a couple of pressurized hits, it should be able to tap out easily by hitting the bolt you threaded in.

Got it out. Used your method Wrench, with Kroil and an old drill bit. Made a hell of a mess but got that sucker out! Thanks!

It's amazing how much collective knowledge there is on the forum. Every time I read about a technique or procedure, I make note of it so I can use it in the future if the need arises.

I have the luxury of owning the machine shop so I just install a zerk in an adapter to the die and push it out with a grease gun....much less mess.
