I'm returning to my roots, plan on hunting with a recurve this fall and have started shooting the old Herters bow (58# at 28) that I've had for many year but shot very little. The bow is 58" and calls for a 52 1/2" string. As it is now, it's a little short for me and I was wondering if I can go with a slightly longer string and get a little more draw length out of it.

52.5 seems like a really short string to me for a 58" bow. Dont know anything about that bow but everything I ever remember seeing or hearing related to strings was to build 3" shorter than AMO bow length. 5.5" shorter would make that bow have a really high brace height but that may be what that particular bow was designed around. Maybe someone that knows that bow will chime in later.

Most everything I've seen says 4 inches shorter than AMO for recurves as a general rule. My 58" Bear re-curve has a 54" string.

Thank-you for the response, the bow is a "Herters Perfection Meg 58 inch" String length 52 1/2. I have about a 29" draw and this bow is a little short, I ordered a 53" , I will give that a try.
