String Damage

I caught my string on something while bushwacking for elk this week. All the archery shops in my area are 7-10 days out on getting the string replaced. I have a LE bull tag in my pocket and can't afford to lose that much time, my season ends 9/11. I don't plan on shooting more than a few arrows through it, actually just one arrow is the plan... What do you guys think, am I safe to finish out the season with the string as is?

Take that serving off around your peep sight and see what the string looks like underneath. I'd bet your peep is cutting the string. If so that will just keep getting worse.

Sounds like your choices are to use it as is or miss most of the season? If it was me...I’d trust it for ONE shot. Wax it good and don’t mess with it. Then get a new string ASAP.
That being said, I would jump on archerytalk and reach out to a couple of the string makers and see if they’ll make you one and overnight it. I bet one will. Especially if you pay a premium. That would be option 1. Option 2 would be to shoot it as is.

The more you shoot though the string being cut will expand and you will lose poundage. Happened to me last year but I still killed three deer that way. Mine looked exactly the same way and lasted me weeks. I put it on a draw board and it had went from 72lbs to 67lbs though.

What bow is it? Some bigger builders probably have a string made for it and you can pay them to overnight it to you. Or you can call a smaller builder and offer to pay them substantially more than the string would cost for them to make it right this second and over night it.

It’s probably good for a few more shots. I wouldn’t take that chance on a OTC doe tag, let alone a LE bull tag. . .

By the way, ditch the G5 meta peep. They’re famous for cutting strings. Get a Fletcher or a RAD peep for the new string.

Be careful with it. Only reason I say that is because I just replaced mine that looked very similar to yours and it wouldn’t Broadhead tune and my peep started to twist an excessive amount. Let me ask you this... do you want to replace that bad boy during season? Do yourself a favor and have a total peep put in.

I bought a string (not the cable) late last night from 60X for my Pro Defiant. It has already shipped and that's with regular shipping. They have them made up I think.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I took it into a shop. The owner inspected it, gave it a good wrap in serving and is confident I'll be good to go for the remainder of season. I'm going to consider this one solved and forget about it. Back to the canyons tomorrow to chase bugles!
