Not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a 12x20 Alaknak tent and am wanting to get a stove to use. Considering the Nuway propane to bypass the lack of wood in my area, and it seems an economical and convenient choice, though am not completely sold on it. The main issue I am facing is that the tent has a 5" opening and the pipe for the Nuway is 3". I don't want the gap, so have been looking for converters to go from a 3 to a 5 inch pipe, or maybe a ring to fit inside the ring the tent has or some other solution. I have not been able to find any of these things....any ideas, especially with those using nuways in standard wall tent stove jack openings?

BTW, I know nothing in real life about wood or propane stoves, other than what i have read on these forums, so if I am thinking about this all wrong, please let me know. Nuway was very nice, but seemed like this was not something they usually sell their stoves for, though I note Alaska tents sells these products for their line.

Thanks!

Going bigger is always better then going smaller with stove pipe. You should be able to get reducers 3-4 and a 4-5" piece them all together

The link to home depot duct reducer below works, don't know why it says access denied

Thanks for the responses. It seems like I can buy a 3" jack and maybe cut out the rubber ring and put it inside the 5 inch ring if I could find a manufacturer of those rings, as well as the dimensions.

Making an adapter out of a can or a step down might be just as effective though.

I use the Nuway stove in my Arctic Oven. The tent has a five inch jack as standard equipment. When I ordered the Nuway from Alaska Tent and Tarp they also sold me the 3 inch Jack setup that attaches to the fly with velcro. Maybe call and purchase the Nuway from them if they will sell you the adapter kit. I like the ability to crank up the heat quickly without rolling out of the sack in the a.m.

Thanks for the reply! I eventually called Alaska Tarp and tent as they sell both the Nuway and Cylinder stoves. After a long conversation, he eventually recommended I not go with the Nuway because of the tent I have (large, non AO tent). He said for the large wall tents, especially where you may need a lot of heat to push out a lot of humidity, he would recommend the wood burner instead, due to the fact that the Nuway would have to run really hard and be marginal for that size/construction of a tent. Different story on the AO's, but that is why they also sell the cylinder stoves, as they sell wall tents as well.

So looks like I am heading down that path, lots of options presented to me that I am going through, from just a barrel kit, to other contraptions people have suggested.

One guy mentioned converting a wood burner to propane use for dual fuel capability. That idea sounds like the best of both worlds. Use propane most of the time, especially here at home, then pull out the propane parts when going where wood would be better/ more convenient etc.

But not sure how that would work....
