Interested. How big are you and how is fit. I’m usually between a med and large in everything I buy.

5’9”, 170, 41-42 inch chest. I usually wear a medium or large in jackets, just depends on the brand. NF, OR, Stone glacier I wear medium, Sitka I wear large. With this jacket I can get a base layer and a shell jacket underneath.

FWIW I'm in the same boat and I've been watching this post bc I'm undecided on which is "right". After trying them both on I bought a large at Scheel's but everything else I own from SG is a medium. I'm right around 6'0 185 pounds, athletic build/broad shoulders and I wear size 32 pants. If it was a casual jacket I'd have bought medium with no doubts, but to me it felt that with enough layers underneath it could potentially bind or pinch in the pits, so I chose large for layering purposes only.

Thanks that’s what I figured as we are pretty similar builds it sounds. If it is designed to be layered a med usually is ok, like Sitka expedition fit. Otherwise it’s prob a large if I want to layer.

At this point I almost feel like if I was going to put a shell or rain gear on top I'd want the medium, but if the Grumman is the outermost layer (my most common use while glassing) I'd want the large. Both feel puffy (duh) and roomy enough for layers, its just the difference of how they'd move once you've stacked a few layers on top or below. I love Stone Glacier and all of their gear but neither size is "perfect" for my body type in the Grumman.

That’s the prob. I want it for an outer ware insulation when sitting but also want it to fit under a shell if needed. But yeah most common use would be as the outer layer

I had a Sitka Kelvin Lite for a short while and the fit of the large was perfect for what we are talking about to me...athletic enough to go under but baggy enough to go on top. Maybe I just played tricks on myself but I swear I could stick that thing in the freezer for 20 minutes and it would come out twice as crinkly/noisy as it was at room temperature so I ditched it.
