Y’all, I just had a guy tell me you still need to boil the water when you use a Steripen. I specifically asked about the Classic model. That doesn’t sound like what I’ve read on here. What do y’all say to that? I’ve only ever used a Sawyer squeeze but I’m looking for something a little more efficient.
Thanks!

You do not need to boil water after treating with steripen. If the water is super murky or lots of floaters, prefilter with a shirt or something, other than that you are good.

I've had really good luck with Katadyn BeFree. I don't drink out of mud holes so this works fine. In areas with lots of water I don't need to carry water around all day. When thirsty I just fill the bottle and drink. The BeFree doesn't weigh much or take up much room in a pack. They make a couple different sizes if you are in a dry area where you need to pack water.

Thanks for that suggestion! I’ll look into that one. The place I’m going has plenty of water. The guy I’m hunting with said he just drinks straight out of the springs and it hasn’t made him sick. I‘m a little hesitant to do that.

I’d be a little hesitant to do that too. Nothing wrong with boiling water after using the steripen but probably a little overkill. Get Giardia or crypto once & you might want to though!
