Stalker Coyote, Your Setup?

Hello,

If you own a Stalker Coyote how have you set it up for hunting? Specifically, what string are you using, what string silencers are you using, and the brace height that works best for you.

I've been trying to eliminate a "twang" I hear with each shot and maybe your setup will help me to make necessary changes in my setup to get rid of my "twang".

My Coyote shoots great and hits where I'm aiming.

Not a coyote but a jackal. I know you said that in the post. Maybe it’ll help you some. I use a 8 strand SBD string. I make my own Wooly puffs (not acrylic) once frayed I keep trimming them down to just smaller than a golf ball. I also use the heterodyne method of placement. It helps. Seal skin rest is on all my bows. I still have enough to last a lifetime. It’s very quiet and goes right where I’m looking.

After changing your string and setting the puffs in heterodyne position. You’ll need to find the sweet spot for the fistemule. If it’s still twangy then it could be you plucking the string a little bit.

I’m still using the strings South sent with my Coyote. I like 4 of the rubber string silencers spaced evenly. Two on top, two on the bottom. Brace height seems to like about 7 1/2”. I tried everywhere from 7 1/4 to 7 3/4. It had a more noticeable “twang” at the shorter brace height. 45# limbs and 50# limbs @28”. I draw close to 30” and anchor on my cheekbone . Axis 340’s cut to 31 /4. 75 grain insert and 150 grain fieldpoint/broadhead.

I have a 62" Coyote FXT with South's strings. I put Beaver balls on it about a foot from the limb tips. 7 5/8" brace height. What made the difference for me is a heavier arrow. I'm shooting 31" draw, 32.5" Easton Axis 4mm with 3" Gateway feathers. I'm using Ethics archery 110 grain SS inserts and the 25 grain aluminum outsert with 200 grain Top Hat target tips or a single bevel 200 grain Cutthroat broadhead. This is one quite bow for sure. Perfect for Grizz.

I had a little twang on mine when I got it from him and realized I had one of my limb bolts a little loose. Might want to double check that. The twang got better but was still there. I am running my brace height right at 7 3/4. 60 lb bow at 28” and I draw 27.5. I am running about 535 grain arrow which is a little on the light side. I was shooting a 509 grain arrow and just moving up to 535 I noticed it was a lot quieter and plan to try a little heavier after this season but it will move me from a 350 to a 300 spine and I didn’t want to get new arrows this season. I also put a rubber button in n my string below the knocking point, not sure if that helped but I like it to get my three under space so I don’t touch the knock.

Whatever you use for string silencers, off set them on the string and it will help with vibration. Like one 8” and the other 5” from the tip. Also think about your grip, tight grip might make it twang a little bit as well as torquing the bow which is tough with a long bow but still possible.

Yeah you could beef up your arrows. That will dampen the noise a lot. 54 lb bow and I shoot 640 grains arrows. I’ve been shooting that arrow set up for over 20 years now. It’s quiet

Mine is around 48lbs at my 25inch draw length. Run my brace at 7.75. Sbd 8 strand string. Cat whiskers, one set at 14 inches and the other at 18.5. I’m running a 525 grain arrow. Bow is dead silent with the acs longbow limbs.

Many thanks for your replies. These are the changes I've made on my Coyote setup.

I increased the brace height to 7 5/8". I removed the brass nock and installed an adjustable string nock, and raised the location of the nock from where they had it on the "skinny" string, about 1/8", to where it's located on the strings of my other bows. I may change out the Mercury "skinny" string for a B-55 Dacron string, too.

I removed the 4 small rubber whickers and replaced them with two wooly silencers, each about 12" from the limb tips. I am shooting cedar arrows that weigh in at 550 grains - 5" shield feathers and Nirk nocks. The "twang" has been practically eliminated - and maybe the only other change I will make is to increase the brace height to 7 3/4" and adding the B-55 string. I also use a Super Archery Mitt (S.A.M.) as my go to tab.

I did install the Stalker deer antler burrs and keep wondering if they are causing some of the "twang" I was hearing.
