Hey guys, for folks that have square pedestal mounts, can you please share the dimensions? I was thinking 24" square would be have good proportions for an elk mount. Please advise and share pics if you have them.

More like 32”-34” if it’s square. If it’s more of a triangle shape then it could be smaller on the top end but the base would still be at least 32-34” wide.

This is the form and look I’m going for. I wasn’t sure on the dimensions, and 32-34” is going to eat up a lot more room than I was expecting. Shoot…

I built an octagon shape pedestal, and with the top trim it's 32 1/4" long by 26 1/2" wide. I don't know what the dimensions are for the one in your pic, but that doesn't look out of proportion for that bull.

That pedestal is well done and thank you for sharing.

What is the height on yours? Your ceiling looks about the same height as mine- 8-9'?

You can also go online and look at any taxidermy supply company’s pedestals and that will give you a good idea. McKenzie, HQ, Matuska, Trufitt, Research Mannikins, Wasco, Van Dykes, etc. A lot of these are already owned by McKenzie. I used to get mine from The Taxidermists Woodshop. You can also make one yourself if you have the wood tools. A pyramid will be about 22” X 22” X 28”. Octagon 24” x 30” x 34”, it’s always better to have the base wider. Some of it also depends on high from the floor you want to go. If you design one then McKenzie can build it for you in their custom shop and so will The Taxidermists Woodshop. Any local woodworker should be able to build one for you as well. Do you want habitat or just a nice flat wood top? Removable top or solid? There are a lot of options you can do.

Thank you for sharing. I have standard construction tools- compound miter saw, brad nailer, etc... My plan was to DIY and try to keep it simple, and that's why I was thinking square. I have access to weathered barn board, and was thinking of a 2x4 or 2x6 internal frame paneled and topped with the barn board for a rustic look. My taxi said I should bolt 1" square tubing to the back of the pedestal via steel flange for attaching to the form. What I haven't cracked was the HxWxD, and you guys have given me some good direction. I just measured the wall in the room the mount is going in, and it's 8'6". The main beams on my bull are around 51". If I keep the height of the pedestal around 30", I should have enough clearance from the ceiling.
