Spot Hogg Hogg-It 7-pin (.19, .19, .10, .10., .10, .10, .10 fixed pins)

I have used and abused the Spot Hogg above for 5 years and killed a lot of animals with it ... currently has broken fiber fourth pin, broken plastic housing that protects the fibers, cracked glass sight level bubble, and two stripped adjustment screws. I'm tough on my equipment -- lesser sights would be in a lot worse shape -- yet the sight and pins have never moved and remain dead on.

Trophy Taker Option 6 (.19, .19, .10, .10, .10 fixed pins; .10 adjustable pin)

I'm considering switching to the Trophy Taker above.

Would appreciate your thoughts regarding comparative: (1) strength/toughness of pins; (2) brightness of pins; (3) overall machining/construction (e.g., qualify of mount, adjustment/micro-adjustment, etc); (4) other key issues or observations regarding these sights. I know there are many other sights out there, but would prefer to limit this discussion to the two sights above.

Thanks.

Me personally I would just send the Spot Hogg in and get it repaired. You say you are tough on your sights and they don't come much tougher than Spot Hogg.

wow...are you using your sight as a hammer?

That is some serious abuse. The TT uses syrenge tubes for the pins like many companies. I am willing to bet you will destroy those pins based on what you did on the SH. I was in the same boat and chose SH. I was using CBE before. This is my second SH.

To be transparent: I have never seen the TT in person.

BTW, you might look at Monatana Black Gold. Pins are tough and bright and fiber is protected nicely.

1. spot hogg has much stronger pins. 2. brightness is about the same. 3 i would give it to TT on this one. Much higher tolerances, more refined and a much higher quality feel. 4. I am so impressed with this TT sight. The only place i like the SH better is the pins.

I am working on a detailed review of the option 6. will be posted on our blog early next week.

If you do go with the TT i would make sure that you get a green .010 adjustable, as the yellow is a bit dimmer than green.

And as always a shameless plug, either way you go, you'll get a rokslide discount and free shipping with us.

One more thing i wanted to add here. If there was anyone on the fence about switching from a fixed pin to a movable. The TT Option would be the sight i would recommend. there is no other sight out there that retains all of the benefits of a fixed pin, and ADDS a movable pin sight.

my biggest struggle using the adjustable pin on my Pure Gold is that if i do make a shot using my adjustable pin, sometimes i forget to move it back. I dont have that problem with this sight.

I have used the SH 7 pin adjustable and the American made TT option 6, and without a question hands down prefer the TT. I have never had a problem with either sights as far as durability and in my eyes they are probably equally durable. The one and only con for me on the TT is if you are shooting slower than about 270 fps, it may be hard to dial past about 90-95 yards, where the SH I could get to 120 plus yards. I like everything else about the TT better.
