Hey guys, looking for some advice/opinions on a split case. This is the second firing on these cases. My load is 41.5 gr. of H4350. 108 eldm with a C.O.A.L of 2.72. I just bumped the shoulder back a bit on second loading. Shot a couple groups today and this is the only one that split. First time I have ever splurged a little on expensive brass. This has never happened to me before with the less expensive stuff. Have been loading for a decade so I believe I know how to safely. Is this a reloading error or could it be bad brass? Thanks for your time everyone.IMG_0820.jpegIMG_0821.jpegIMG_0822.jpeg

I contacted Lapua via email this evening. Hopefully they will respond. What a bummer, just loaded the whole lot of 100 back up for the second go around.

Even though this one piece wasn’t formed correctly, I’d go ahead and keep using the rest of them. Individual pieces of brass I’ve culled out for various reasons over the years haven’t usually been indicative of the rest of the box. I’d bet you wouldn’t get more splits with the next firing.

I’ve been shooting your same load basically in starline with 0 issues - You don’t have any ejector marks or a flattened primer so no other pressure signs.

I’d agree with the consensus of a bad batch of brass.

Sent a few cases back to lapua. The split one and ones that were not split out of same lot. Received an email today saying they are sending out another lot of brass. I am good with that and will buy their product again.

Vertical cracks in the case body are from bad brass. I had this same thing happen with Nosler brass, except they wouldnt refund or replace since I was handloading...... which is what I buy brass for.
I tried to continue to use that lot but had another random split so I finally just threw the box away.
