I currently hunt the North Coast and am ready to try and seal the deal on a mature benchleg. I'll be hunting early archery unless something changes my mind. I'll be headed south late spring with cams and minerals to spend a few days scouting as well. I was going to do a gun hunt with a fellow veteran but he recently had to back out of a late October meet up. . Also, if anyone needs any north coast info shoot me a message asking...

My experience with monitoring blacktails all summer has been that they are scattered, and they move around bachelored up during summer. Usually up higher, but I have them on low cameras too. Cover, food, and water. They don’t travel far from it. Our archery season starts just after they shed their velvet, by literally days. The farther east you go, the better chance for a big benchleg as they will be closer to muley territory. I hope you are successful!

Thanks, the BT do the same up here. We see them bunched up in archery elk usually. I'm hoping they stay at the mineral until hard horned like my BT and whitetail do since the hunts first week of august.

Ah, well they rubbed it off sometime between 8/26 and they were all slick by 8/29 on our cameras.

Nice. I'll be happy to get some pics late July. My plan is to primarily treestand hunt if the deer do what I'm expecting, if not I guess wear out some leather providing the new knees Uncle Sam paid for hold up.

Have you had much luck with blacktail from the tree stand? I’ve hunted em all my life, but never from a tree stand. I used to see couple stands in a big swamp I hunt from time to time, and thought they looked good.

On the north coast we typically just run and gun glassing clear cuts on slip through timber. I haven't hunted them from tree stands because I haven't hunted them over mineral/bait early season, too busy chasing elk in Sept. Sent you a MSG
