I have been drawn for an archery deer tag in Unit 85 CO (I am from OK). I plan on hunting the area west of North Lake, probably south of Coal Creek during the beginning of September. I have been in this area before but am not real familiar with it. I will be camping with the family for a few days at Purgatory camp ground and then they will go back to OK and I am going to solo pack hunt for 6-7 days. A couple of questions if anyone has input, should I just focus on the deer tag or should I also buy an OTC Elk tag also and hunt for both? Do you guys normally focus on one or multiple tags? I was also thinking if I decide to forgo the Elk tag maybe I should a bear tag as I hear there are a lot of bears in this area. Also, for anyone familiar with this area, if I get up high would my 10x42's be OK or should I lug the spotter? I guess I could always focus on the deer tag and then buy an OTC tag for rifle and go back to CO somewhere for that and not confuse my hunts. I just always have this nagging feeling that I will see the shot that I don't have a tag for. But maybe focusing on too many things is a poor hunt strategy. Any inputs?
