Solid basic AR optic mounts

If it isn't on an AR why TF do you want a cantilever mount?! Or did I miss an important part of the Q in my skimming?
I've got a Leupold MK 35mm Cantilever mount that is posted in the classified if that is what you have your heart set on, but I've always thought that the higher the optic over center of bore = more problems introduced.
Am I missing something here?

Interesting how all their images show it bridging the receiver and handguard. Thought that was generally accepted as a bad idea for consistency, having one rail mounted on 2 different surfaces that can potentially move independently of one another.

Yes, that’s what it’s made for - to improve consistency, to improve the connection/ rigidity between the handguard and receiver. I haven’t used on a handguard that uses a barrel nut clamp (most of them) but ona rigid handguard that is mechanically secured to the receiver it makes sense

What problems are introduced by being higher over the bore?

Problems might be too big a word. Considerations to keep in mind might be a better way to phrase it. Higher height over bore complicates precise shot placement at distances shorter than zero distance. Making CQB difficult or at least it means having one more thing to keep in mind while doing it. At longer ranges it doesn't matter provided that you put accurate info into your ballistic app for Height Over Bore.

I'm not necessarily looking for cheap; looking for people's experience with solid but not Gucci mounts.

Kind of like how $60 sports match rings are a dead reliable way to mount a scope on a Tikka. If they didn't exist, I'd happily spend UM ring money, but I'm even happier to do perfectly functional but not very sexy.
