Snow Tactics...?Archery Elk

Curious of what tactics people switch to in early season snow? Last year Idaho September Archery had a good 5-7 days right in the middle of our hunt. Elk seemed to go quiet..maybe they were just hunkered down due to cold. The wind really made locating difficult. Maybe we just needed to cover more country....but the snow made for slow going. .....didnt know if others had specific strategy in the snow....thanks!
