What’s the general consensus on slings for rifles? Are all slings basically created equal? I’m looking to get one for my new APR 7prc for hunting and was just curious. Thanks in advance!

I think it depends on how you use it. I really only use my sling occasionally for crossing something where I need my hands, so I don't care if it's all fancy with grippy stuff.

If you use one for shooting support, a loop sure is handy.

I use the Ultimate rubber sling. It seems to fit my needs, hiking to get in place and doubles as a good shooting loop. Plus a good tourniquet if the need arises. (hopefully not).

I use the quake claw slings for rifles/shotguns. I'll strap the rifle to the pack for long/tough hikes but prefer to sling it over the frame on my pack for quicker access if needed.

I've had others that slip but those claw slings really stick and stay where you place them on your shoulder/pack. I have three of them now.

The tourniquet idea is smart. I have never thought about that honestly. Thanks for the suggestions fellas!

Those super basic butler creek ones work well, I think the ones I've been using are called "mountain slings" or something, just basic nylon webbing with a small amount of grip stuff on them. I have a lot of slings and end up just using those most of the time.

I also have some butler creek ones that are just basic webbing with a bit of neoprene and those are good too.

If you are just going to a stand, anything will do that is comfortable to you. If you are going out with a day pack, you will want a rifle sling for your pack. There are several on the market. You want a system that will get the rifle in front of you in a hurry. Slik sling works for me. You will need a somewhat wide hip belt on the pack to use one.

Browning X-Cellerator is the best sling for me. I have them on my rifles and shotguns. They’re one hand adjustable and work great for offhand shooting. Unfortunately, they quit making them. 🤬
