It's a great tripod and many (including myself) are using it. I think it's a great balance of weight, stability, and price. I'm on my phone, so can't provide any links, but if you search the forums, you'll find quite a bit of info.
Steve has some In stock right now. My understanding is that they are changing from twist locks, but the change,is going to add about 0.4lbs. I ordered one up from him to make sure I get the lightweight version before they sold out.
It is too bad they are going from twist to flick. It isn't just the added weight, but the potential PITA factor if the locks can get hung up sliding it in and out of your pack - not to mention durability concerns if the locks get hung up. I used to use a Bogen with leg lock that stuck out, and going to the in-line twist locks was really nice.
i had delusions with how light it was all going to be. i weighed my new tripod with my vortex 65 HD. six pounds, 4 oz. i can manage that.
the thing pans pretty smooth. i am fussing for that perfect "tension", i can manage that as well. i was reading the text of a bag of chicken feed, about 80 yards away. pretty fun. super stable.
i'm gonna call outdoorsman and order the attachment for my leica ultravids. the newness is gone from my binos..i dont mind taking pliers to them to remove that cap. binos on tripod is too much of an advantage to worry about it.
I picked up a Schonfeld CF twist lock legs and pan head at the sheep and goat hunters orientation last weekend for $180.00. Weighs in at 2.5 lbs with the head on it.
