Anyone used a silk bag liner for late season? I'm considering one this year. They appeal to me because of size and weight but how about efficiency ? Likes and dislikes?

Nice way to add a little warmth without much weight. Also keeps the inside of your bag cleaner//longer.
I use one in my western mountaineering down bag all the time.

I purchased a cheap one off ebay just to try. And I really felt like it added some good warmth for me on the couple times I tried it. Haven't tried it in really cold conditions. It was cheap and its a very small light package. Easy to wash as well.

I picked up a cheaper one off Ebay today, Vietnamese silk supposedly, we'll see if it's a winner comes December time, thanks fellas.

They do work well to keep your bag clean. They don't noticeably add to the warmth from what I could tell. They are a PIA to get into.Mostly I wear light wool base layer bottoms

I don't use silk but use Sea to Summit Reactor Thermolite Mummy Bag Liner, as mentioned it helps keep your bag clean and adds warmth. I don't backpack with it but use it for motorized late season hunts.

I have one that I only used a few times. Never noticed an increase in warmth and it's a bit of a tangly pain. I suppose, keeping your bag clean would be a long term benefit, but I find sleeping in a merino base layer does that without the irritations a liner comes with.

Any more, if I have to use a liner, it's an Integral Designs Vapour Barrier liner. It's a pain too, but actually has some real cold weather benefits.

I have the cocoon silk liner and the Sea to summit reactor that Steve mentioned. The silk liner weights very little but only makes slight difference it temp rating. I stopped carrying it because keeping base layers on offered the same benefit. I will pack my sea to summit reactor if the weather report shows temps/condition that might near my bags rating.
