Only because I’m mostly shooting this on a 30-06 so I like the brake to tame the recoil just a bit.

I was thinking I want the brake (haven't been approved yet). I'm mostly looked at the cap as an easy way to tape the end for hunting. Not sure how I'd do it with the brake.

It wouldn’t be that hard, just strip around the outside edge of the brake then some to cover the hole. It would definetly be easier with the flat cap though.
