On monday I hiked my trail cam and 50lbs of trace mineral back into my elk spot. 4.5 miles and 2,000' elevation gain. I weighed my pack before leaving, and with the trail cam, bear box, python lock, trace mineral, and essential supplies for the day it came out to 74.5lbs. After adding food and heavy duty sandals to cross a river I'm sure I topped the 80lb mark.
I'll start out by saying I was using a Kuiu Icon Pro 3200 in load sling mode. I had the 50lbs of trace mineral in a xxl drybag and riding high in the load sling. All other gear was in the pack. Even at 80lbs the pack felt awesome and during most of the hike I did not notice anything painful other than my hip flexors and glutes working extra hard. By the time I reached the bench that I hung the camera on though my right shoulder blade was not feeling good.
Any ideas? could I possibly not have the torso length adjusted optimally for me? Or is it possible I put too much pressure on the load lifters? (if there is such a thing)?
Thanks for any advice on possible adjustments I could try.
