Should I be pissed at my taxi?

I have taken two bull bison (one with a rifle, latest one with a bow) and just got the tanned robe back. Here's the thing, the same taxidermist did both of them but the rifle (45-70 Govt) hide had no visible holes in it whereas the bow bull has large holes in it (much more visible from the bottom). Shouldn't these have been sewn up or is it possible that the gun hide just show the holes after tanning cuz they're smaller? There are four large holes (and one small one not caused by an arrow) through the hide on the left and it kinda bugs me...is this a normal taxi thing or should I address it? These are the only hides I've ever had tanned so I'm not sure.

He should have down them up or at least I would have unless you specified not to witch you obviously didn't. I would bring it up should be able to still sew them up, they will still be slightly visible from the back side, like your rifle hide should have them sewn up.

No you shouldn't be pissed at him. It's a small problem and if you don't like them, have him sew it up. I'm guessing he probably leaves em on all hides.

Can't get mad at the small things.

I'm just trying to determine if leaving holes is "normal" or if sewing up holes is "normal"...is there a taxidermist in the house?

Ok, that's sounds better. Judging by the title it sounds like you are asking if you should be pissed at your taxidermist for not sewing up the holes.

It's not a big deal and probably just a simple oversight, but yes, they should be sewn up. I've got a whole pile of various hides from bear to zebra, elk and deer. They all had at least one hole in them. Now they have none. Those hides look nice and you should overall be happy, but bring the holes to his attention.

If you just got the hide tanned, I don't think anyone would see them. If mounted or a rug then obviously. If you want them sewed up, take them back and ask. I have 30 tanned hides in my house and never expected any of them to be sewn and really don't want them that way.

Okay, i figured for what i was spending it was a given the holes would be sewn but apparently that is an incorrect assumption. Thanks. FYI: Shoulder mount is $1250.00, the tanned robe is $475.00, euro skull and horn mold (for mount) 275.00. That's 2000.00+ 100.00 for UPS.

Wow, I thought before I had a great taxi, now I know! I've never asked for sewing, but he's always done it. I thought that was the norm.

The kill shot was to the neck and blew the neckbone completely through the other side making the 2009lb bull cartwheel. Lousy iphone video of it at

I found a hole in it in the lung area (1st shot) after much looking, seems kinda small though. By comparison the Woodsman Elite broadheads did some serious cutting.

I haven't ever had the holes sewn my small black bear had a huge exit hole the taxi said she could hix it if I got it rugged but I only wanted the tan so its still there.

I have a bunch of bear hides that weren't sewn. A lot of taxis don't even do the work. They send them out and someone else does the tanning. I would feel pretty confident in saying they'd have sewn the holes it if you asked but not just as a rule.

I didn't read the other responses. My apologies if I was repetitive

Bruce,
I had a small taxi business for 8 yrs. and if the hide was just being tanned I sewed up the holes that I thought would gape open or would distort the shape of the hide. On the little holes such as standard bullet or broadhead holes, I usually didn't sweat it unless asked to do so or I was going to mount it further than just the tanning. I think for the most part this would pretty much be the norm as most of the posts have alluded to.
By the way that's a nice looking buffalo!
