Hey All,

I am attempting to tear down an old bow and rebuild it and then build arrows from there. In going online I see serving String comes in different sizes. What's a standard size most people use if I am also unaware of what arrows I will be using since I'm sure nock has something to do with the choice as well. Can I use this service for all aspects of the bow like tying in my peep and replacing the center serving? TIA!

Something like BCY 62 is probably what you will want to use for center serving. I think .021 is a good size to start with, but it will depend on the string on the bow, the number of strands and so forth. Could also use 62x? Or 62xs? Can't remember which it is, should be a little more durable.

I have been using 400 nylon to tie in peeps and such. Little wax on it and it ties in nice and has pretty good bite.

Maybe someone else will have some better suggestions, or alternatives.

Tough to say as even knowing strand count, there are different diameters in the various string materials.

I make my strings, Heres what I would do. Get yourself some halo between .24 and .30.....24 is probably better in your case as you want smaller to start.

Do 20 test wraps on your string to see how your noks fit. Typically you will have to build up the area behind the serving. I run 4 strands of BCYX behind my servings on my recurve strings as they are only 12 strand.

Make sure to wind in the direction it will tighten when twisting up your string....and lock your serving in on top and bottom so it doesn't open up.

Otherwise you can Mic it...and ask a string maker what size to use.

I use .021 on all my strings. .024 would work too but theres a few variables so you may have to try a couple sizes
