Are there any laws/rules I should know about if I were to sell ammunition on here and ship it to a buyer? Any special packaging required?

Can’t ship it from UPS Stores or the like. Need to go to UPS Customer Center and ship via ground. Need to declare it as “small arms cartridges”.

I haven’t tried shipping any since UPS went all woketard with firearms (requiring FFL to ship), so not sure we can even ship ammo as private citizen any longer.

USPS a no go as stated above.

FedEx halted all firearms / ammo shipping from the private class a while back.

Go with UPS Ground (I used them less than a year ago), must have a Limited Quantity label on the package. Also, understand the laws not only for your state but the state/locale that you are shipping to. California, New York, and New Jersey (among others) have some specific legislation that restricts shipping directly to homes and you may have to ship to an FFL.

I shipped ammo a few weeks ago. You dont have to claim it as ammo if I remember correctly. You only have to claim the limited quantity hazmat as labeled with the limited quantity placard.

“Cartridges, small arms” with the correct marking on outer box under the limited quantity restrictions.

See UPS links above

Not saying you didn’t declare it…I have a friend who shipped without declaring

The link does not say you have to declare it is ammo. It says the ammo must qualify as limited quantity, and then it must be labeled limited quantity. Either way, it doesnt matter. As long as it qualifies as limited quantity they will ship it. They do ask for a description so if you lied that may open you up to issues.

Let’s try this statement:

“To qualify as Cartridges, small arms "Limited Quantity", ammunition must be:

Ammunition that does not exceed 12.7 mm (50 caliber or 0.5 inch) for rifle or pistol cartridges or 8 gauge for shotgun shells; or Ammunition with inert projectiles or blank ammunition”

Yes, and limited quantity is in quotes because that is what it has to qualify as. Once it meets that, it bypasses a whole set of normal hazardous material restrictions and labeling requirements. You are not labeling the box as ammo.

That’s interesting, because even receiving a single box of ammunition has the hazardous label on it.

It’s “limited quantity” ammunition because it is .50 caliber and less (or inert, or blank ammunition”

But carry on as you please

So you think that label means it's ammo?
Ummmm, yes.

Here is the applicable definition from CFR:

“Cartridges, small arms. Ammunition consisting of a cartridge case fitted with a center or rim fire primer and containing both a propelling charge and solid projectile(s). They are designed to be fired in weapons of caliber not larger than 19.1 mm. Shotgun cartridges of any caliber are included in this description. The term excludes: Cartridges, small arms, blank, and some military small arms cartridges listed under Cartridges for weapons, inert projectile.”

What is that word that starts the second sentence?

🤣The label means it's a limited quantity hazardous material. It doesn't declare it as ammo. The same label is on a box with nail polish remover in it. I know that because I shipped ammo in the box my wife got her nail polish remover in so I didn't have to get a label.

Wow, you got me there. But we were discussing shipping cartridges, small arms, limited quantity which falls under the definition of ammunition.

Ammunition will certainly have that label.
