I received my Broadwing bag from Seek Outside to run on the Revolution frame/suspension. I was hoping to run the Broadwing similar to how they show the Brooks pack with the main bag compressed and just the 2 outer pockets for gear while day hunting. I thought the upper split pockets could be completely closed off with zippers or similar, but that is not the case. The pockets have drawstrings on top and bottom that reduce the size of opening, but do not fully close the pocket. I didn't order the Brooks because I already have a Revolution and wasn't sure if the Brooks would work with the Revolution. I have contacted SO about the Brooks and Revolution compatibility and will update this thread when I hear back from them. Or maybe Kevin will see this and update. I still think the Broadwing is probably a useful and well made bag, but not for my use. I just wanted to get the info out to those who were looking into this bag, since the info is not clear on the website.

The Broadwing pockets do not close off completely , thus they are not well suited to small items, but larger items or items in a possibles style pouches are fine. I have no fear putting a water filter, jacket , or pouch with several items in there , but would not stick my head lamp. However, for small items like a headlamp , I know some people , including myself wrap them on the side grab handle ..super simple and effective.

Now in comparison, yes the pockets do not have the same volume because they are not continuous the length. I prefer the full length pockets of the Brooks backpack for day use and absolute security .. however there are times when the Broadwing can simply carry things the brooks can not. So it is a bit of a trade off.

If you ask nicely, or we get enough requests, we may add a Brooks style on the the Revo panel as a breakaway bag.

However, I will also state this, knowing full well many of you want a "breakaway bag" function or the ability to use as just a hauler .. that the brooks 99 percent of the time is faster and simpler to load up for a pack out. It really is just so simple .. and all you need to do is protect your gear from game bags and you are solid. There is not the issue of washing or cleaning blood out that happens with other packs. I state this , having done both several times, and having had both packs and elk quarters in front of me, loading them up and packing out. The Brooks was faster and simpler.

Thanks

Kevin, is the washing or cleaning blood issue negated due to the pack material? From the pictures it looks like it would rinse quite easily. Is that correct?

I'm not so concerned about having the break away function (although I have used this function), but I already have a Revolution, so would rather not have to start over. If there is a way to attach the Brooks to the Revo, I would be very interested.

I will be taking delivery of a broadwing pack today. I am really looking forward to using the pack and the weight savings. I went back and forth numerous times between the brooks and the broadwing and for my style of backpack hunting, I feel the broadwing will be a better fit. The versatility of the side pockets and the side zip main bag are exactly what I wanted my kifaru bag on a stone glacier frame to be. The suspension has me intrigued as well.

Kevin, the SO website is a little vague about load weight capacity so what would you say the pack is up for, "comfort" aside? I don't go to wild like some of the animals on here but I will be asking it for a few 100 + pound loads.

Correct. A simple wash off in a tub or in a creek probably is fine. I often , just put them in the wash with no detergent on a short short cycle and hang dry. I have one pack that did 5 pack outs like that. I have another white cordura faced xpac pack that has been on 3. Looks like new and the dogs have no interest in it.

Wow !! We have been trying to be more specific and detailed but never knew we missed such an obvious one. I've known people to do 160 lbs numerous times in the field. I also have seen quick tests at 200 and above. I doubt there are many folks that can handle more weight than the suspension.

Rossi: A Brooks pack bag only will slide right on your frame and belt / harness. This video covers it pretty well, basically you can go from our smallest to biggest pretty quickly.

Outside of that , contact us directly. Our desire is to get you the best setup for your needs.

Thanks

Just for completeness here is how breakaway bags work as well. This also includes a couple updates that show the movable shelf.

I was so focused on making it work with the Revo, I hadn't thought of just using the frame and suspension on the Brooks without the panel. With a bag that large, I can't see the need for additional space between the bag and frame for my uses. As long as there is no issue with my older frame (larger tubing), I'll likely be placing an order for the Brooks bag. Thanks for the info Kevin!

It should work no worries. Correct, that is one of the reasons the Brooks backpack is so large .. big expeditions or backpacking gear and meat

Kevin,
Anyway to run a talon or load sling on the the bottom of the Brooks /revolution frame to be able to carry meat on outside of main bag?And between the bat Wing?

Thanks

Yes. The load sling is the interior load shelf on the Brooks backpack, but it is removable / movable so you can attach it outside bottom just like a normal load sling.

Talons, you can run with the Brooks, but they really are not needed with more than 2K available in the side pockets. Since the compression is movable as well, you can run side compression and a talon just like Unaweeps if you desire.

However, even though it is super versatile, what I really like about the Brooks is how simple it is to use. Below is a little video showing how simple it can be. Keep in mind, I have used it on a winter trip, sheep pack outs, archery season, rifle season and summer backpacking / mountaineering and since we now have some snow, I'm sure I will use it backcountry skiing soon as well. Thus far, it has done really well, and the only real negative I can find is it is a bit overkill for fair weather backpacking.

That video turned me back looking at the Brooks, maybe it's the camo... but would like to keep meat on the outside at times.

Talon would be wanted to use solo with revolution horn hunting or meat only packing.

I think Brooks on Revolution frame and a large Talon would cover most of my needs.

Is that camo available ? I have a hard time scrolling on your website on my Samsung...just me?

There will be a camo option or special camo run on a couple specific pack bags. Not sure of the pattern yet. Brooks and Peregrine are the likely pack bags. If you don't need the giant size, the peregrine will probably do everything you need and might be a better option especially is the bulk of your hunting is further south.

The Peregrine, basically has a "Talon" built in that sucks down to a nice little day pack, with big side pockets, but the Peregrine basically can act like a talon itself with the breakaway bag function. Here is a little video
