A bull I had the pleasure of chasing in 2020 in an Oregon OTC unit. Biggest elk I ever saw “on foot” in one of our encounters.

Never saw him on cam in 2021,2022. Assume he was killed.

Would love ya’lls thoughts on age and score. I’m a scoring rookie at best. I’d say he has decent mass, but overall hurt by his weak 3rds. I don’t have a head on picture, but he did not have what I would consider a overly narrow or overly wide frame.

My guess is that he was a 300-315?

320-350, 6-8 years old.

Or 310-330 and 11-13 years old on really good feed.

He doesn't have much mass, and has a small body.

I'd put him at just over 300 by 10-25 inches. Definitely a good bull any day of the week

Should have put in a good reference point! Here are two raghorns. Same place, same season

Pretty much any time a bull has back ends like him he is 320plus🤙 Bulls can disappear a yr or two and show back up….if he does watch out🤙 Fronts also good length compared to his nose…a good genetic bull that would grow into a hammer🔨

Id say closer to 320 too. Good tine length helps but I think his main beams are shorter, maybe 40-42"ish. Figuring off his face being about 15" long.

For me it's impossible to judge elk really well without some kind of size reference. Mature bulls can be a hundred (or more) pounds different on the hoof. It's a big bull, I would shoot it.

I love this thought process; face size as a reference. I always have a tough time finding a good reference point.

I don't see the main beam length for much over 310. I was going to say 300.
I don't think you are giving the whale tale much credit. At the same time there are no other elk to reference for body size.

Based on the swooping fronts and solid thirds I agree with others that he is about 325.

I love the tops, he looks like 325-330 to me… that tine length adds up. Great looking public land bull no doubt!

Initial impression is "big bull" and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot, but I'll shoot a raghorn any day of the week and twice on Sunday. As far as score, I think main beams are short and would guess 310.

Without some point of reference, it's really hard to judge mass and body size. But for Oregon, I'd say those are exceptional 3rds. (Edit - just looked back at the photo - looks like there is a stick in the background that appears to be part of the tine...so maybe he is carrying normal 3rds - still going with 320 or so...)

I'd guess 320-325 for your bull.

These are normal 3rds for Oregon...
