To low, have you ever seen the slow motion videos of scopes flexing during recoil? It's enlightening to say the least.

I'd post a link but I'm to dumb to figure out how.

When you shoulder the rifle and have a comfortable weld... how does the scope line up? Getting it as low as possible isn't my first priority anymore.

I shoot a 300 winmag and the clearance is very close to that, maybe a little more. Never been an issue and it's been on the gun for 4 seasons. I only shoot that gun about 15 times a year. If I shot it more it could be an issue. I questioned the clearance when I mounted the scope and everything I read considered clearance okay.

Ok I was able to move the scope forward to get 4 sheets of paper under it and still have proper eye relief. It is a 22” 300WM.

One of the videos @WeiserBucks mentioned. Dude man is shooting a .50 to be fair, but the mounts on those are also pretty beefy so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for your optic to be flexing this much. I'd make sure you have at very least 1mm of clearance between every part of the optic and the rifle.

This will never happen on a bolt action 300 win mag with a properly secured scope.

OP. You should be fine but do some field testing to verify on your own. People on the internet can’t test for you.

300 win mag lots. 50 BMG little. What does that have to do with a video clip of a guy shooting a 50 bmg with the rear part of the rail not even properly secured to the rifle? Using that as an example for ops question and setup is silly honestly. That’s the semi auto bucking causing the majority of the poorly mounted rail to flex like that not the recoil energy itself.

That clearance looks fine to me. I've got more than a few scopes that close. never seen ill affects or evidence of contact between rail and scope bell.

Looks like a candidate for the next size up for taller rings. I always go for a 1/4” at least. Proper eye relief is a must have. There is more vibration with a light sporter contour. Clearing a pic rail is another matter as the rail, if properly installed, isn’t going to move. Each to his own.

Well, the way an optic moves is a function of the rifle's recoil impulse, and I can tell you that, in comparing the thousands of rounds of each caliber I've fired, there are some lightweight hunting rifles in .300 WM that kick harder than some .50s. Would love to see a slow motion HD video comparing them if that's what your claim that the phenomenon shown in the video "would never happen" is based off of.

Interesting. Off the cuff, I would think it would be okay.
I wonder if a piece of color transfer paper could be slipped between the scope and rifle, taped to the scope. Fire a few rounds and see if scope flex is an issue. Or some other sort of tattletale for contact.
I would guess ring placement, scope bell/tube design all have an effect on potential / amount of scope flex.
