Savage 10 FCP-SR Bottom Metal Conversion

Background: I am in the accrual of parts stage. My donor rifle is an unfired Savage 10 FCP-SR chambered in .308. I intend to convert it to 6.5x284 Norma utilizing the action from this donor. The issues I am running into are 1. I hate the Savage magazines, they tilt even if you look at them wrong, and require adjustment before you can cycle a round. 2. I intend to load 140 VLD hunting, and want as much COAL as possible to work with (Something the stock mag severely limits).

So my question is; 1. What BM are you guys using in your Savages? (detachable mag or hinged floor plates only please) 2. What is the COAL for your system?

The build so far;

Tube: Brux 6.5 - #3 contour - 28" - 1:8" twist
Trigger: Rifle Basix SAV-2
Stock: Bell & Carlson Savage M40
Scope: Zeiss V6 3-18x50
Rail: Xtreme Hardcore Gear 20 MOA

Other then that I am planning on starting this build next week and could use a little help to finish up.

Sawtoothshooter, what did you end up choosing here and how did the build turn out? I am looking at doing a very similar build and I am also running into these same issues for acquiring the parts.

I have two Savage 110's in 6.5 PRC, one is an ultralight that uses the axis mags the other a desert tactical that uses AICS mags. The max coal I can run on the axis mag is 2.995 vs the AICS mag with a max coal of 2.950.

Sawtoothshooter, what did you end up choosing here and how did the build turn out? I am looking at doing a very similar build and I am also running into these same issues for acquiring the parts.

Wound up selling everything and building a 700 LA instead. Just better parts available. Actually selling that rifle now to fund a shorty 6.5 SAUM and another project
