I've been looking at satellite phones for upcoming Colorado trip and ran across a new device that links with your smart phone. It's called the iridium "Go" hotspot. From the way it looks, you pair your smart with a small satellite box (up to 5 smart devices) and the box connects you to the outside world with text, email and phone service. Not that I want to stay in touch, but I do have 2 kids, wife and business. It also has an emergency call button for those unexpected events.
Anyone use this new technology? If so, how did it work for you? It can be rented like the other satellite phones, I found one on outfittersatellite.com
Thanks in advance

We used one in our guided camps last year - seemed to work as good (or maybe a bit better) as the typical iridium sat phones we had rented in the past. It's being used up there as we speak and I will ask it's doing this year. Other than remembering to download the app before I got to camp (doh!) the only minor negative is battery life but it's no worse than any sat phone I've used. We just set up the solar panel in camp during the day and charged the device at night which worked out good.

I look at the Delorme too and some say that it gets costly since you have to subscribe to their plan. JJamesdean, what has been your experience if u don't mind me asking. Some forums say that it costs $450 yearly. Thanks for the feedback
