I got a pair of the Quest 4 or 5 years ago and have yet to retreat them but have water coming in. For those that have retreated, what product have you used and have you seen it be effective?

The nylon mesh on Quests was never water proof and never will be. Send Gore an email, they warranty their liner for "useful" life.

I use nixwax works great . First pair went 9 years of hard use, just got my 2nd pair this week

This is the correct answer, they are not waterproof boots.

They are awesome boots but I won't be going into ankle high water in them.

Flex Seal.

All kidding aside. I tried to retreat mine. Didn't work. I think the Quests are a great boot but I ended up taking the step up to Kenetrek and Cripsi (different boots for different applications) and haven't missed the Quests once.

What I found is that once the Gortex membrane wore out, there wasn't any aftermarket product that would overcome the issue around the mesh that's been discussed here already.

They're the best value boot out there and very comfortable. However, when I can only get a year or two of hard use out of them, the economics made more sense to upgrade.

I‘ve crossed countless creeks and wet bogs in Salomon Quest boots. The oldest pair finally started to leak after many years and many hunts. Eventually the gore tex liner wears out. Two other pairs are doing fine.

as mentioned I got a ton of use and abuse out of my previous pair with no issues, just got a new pair, I think on the older pair the tongue was same material as the boot. I wish I still had them to compare

On the topic of Salomon Quest 4D, has anyone seen the latest version, and, if so, can you tell me whether the eyelets are now plastic or still metal like the old ones? I haven't been able to find a pair to look at around here. Thanks much.

I've had lots of pairs of quest and love the fit and feel but can't get over how fast they've fallen apart on me so I've been looking for a similar boot to replace them.
Recently bought the hanwag makra tech and have been pretty happy.

4-5 years and no leaks is amazing. Mine have leaked fairly quickly. I have used some 3m spray fabric sealer and it helps but they aren't water proof by any means.

4-5 years is well beyond useful life for me and that type of hiker. You'll never make them waterproof again.

Now you have a good reason to buy new shoes! :)

I had 2 pairs and they both leaked within a month. got a free replacement on the first pair, went to Lowa Tibets when the second pair started leaking. I would be looking at something better than Salomons. Comfortable but not durable.

Mine didn’t last 50 miles.
I've probably got at least 300 on mine. They are separating and I have no idea if they are waterproof still. But they have also shrunk slightly. Which seems to be a common occurrence for me since I hunt in a lot of hot weather.

I've had a few others shrink too. Frustrating.
