I have had the alp trainer for two years now and while I don't put as many miles on as many here do I have been impressed. If you have fairly narrow feet like I do they have been one of the few that don't allow forefoot slippage. I will tell not to let their athletic look and lightweight fool you, even the alp trainer is a serious boot.
From a durability standpoint the only issues I've had are the lacing hooks are a bit soft on mine but I believe they have fixed this on the newer models.

I've tried a million boots and the Salewa's just fit my feet right. Fit is so subjective that it's hard to say if they will work the same for you though. Heel cup is nice and snug as well has mid foot. Depending on what boot you get, the toe areas range in room. I've got the Rapace, Raven Combi and Alp Trainers. I beat the piss out of my boots and put 100's of miles on each year and they have held up great.
I have a pair that I've been wearing for a few years now. Only problem I have with them is they are really narrow and low volume in the toe area. Other than their fit on my feet I think they're a well built shoe. Because of the fit issue I don't wear them hiking but I wear them around the yard and for work stuff a lot.
I have been wearing the new Crow GTX light mountaineering boot for the last couple months and am very happy with them. The fit is slightly narrow which is perfect for me. I've worn them doing everything from Spring turkey to mixed alpine climbing (hybrid crampon compatible) and have been very impressed with their waterproofness and breathability.
