Hello I have an older .243 Ruger m77 mark 2. Never gets shot was my first deer rifle. Been toying with the idea to put a new barrel and want a new caliber.
Can this be done to make it into a .223 with the stock bolt and bottom metal?

Which ammo is more readily available, 22cm or 22-250. Haven’t paid attention to either and I don’t reload.

While it can certainly be done, if the rifle still shoots well this may be a great excuse for you to get a new rifle. Those older M77s, especially if it is the zytel/boat paddle stock, are quite sought after now. If I were in your shoes I'd leave it as-is and snag a Tikka.

Which bolt is it? There's some that have the full circumference around the head and some are true crf with the bottom of the bolt flush with the bolt face. If it's the full circumference, you could bush the bolt. That only solves the chambering portion though. The feed rails will be too wide and need some custom work to function and the follower and mag will be wrong.

It's nothing you couldn't solve for 1200-1500 bucks.
