Rifle slings

What Rifle Slings have worked particularly well for all of you?

I have just been buying the cheap Butler Creek Neoprene ones, but have broken two in the past year. The plastic slides on these just dont cut it.

My rifles are not the light and weigh 11-14 lbs.

Or how many of you run a sling at all? I could see some minimalists going without? I am using the Stone Glacier Weapon Sling and it works great when I am on the move.

I've used Quake Claw slings for years. They seem to stay where you put them as well as any and will provide a reasonable amount of support. I wouldn't call them indestructible, but I haven't wore one out yet.

Another thing to consider is to get a Kifaru gun bearer to strap it on better if you have a pack and sling that is compatible.

The last two years I have went without and have been very happy. Maybe about 2% of the time I wish I could sling it over my shoulder quick to have both hands free but the other 98% of the time it is so nice to not have it.

I use a kifaru gun bearer.

Claws works good and so does the Slogan Outdoors Ultraflex sling. They're not the lightest slings, but they are really comfortable and stay in place better than other's I've used.

I have used one for both hunting rifles and turkey shotguns for seven or so years now.
I just bought a Kifaru gun bearer this winter, so will be toying with that this fall as well.

I have used many slings over the years and the claw was my favorite up until 2 years ago. My favorite now is the Limbsaver Kodiak-Lite, it does not slip, it is wide so it does not dig into your shoulder, it does not absosrb water, it is the most comfortable sling I have ever used. Plus our local Wal-Mart carries it in black.

Call me cheap, but I make my own out of ¾" webbing & a couple of ladder locks. Coat the back side with clear silicone bathroom sealer so it doesn't slip & I'm good to go!
Weighs nothing & costs about $3 + swivels.

I really like the sling I have from Turner Saddlery, their National Match Service Rifle All Weather Sling (AWS).

It looks like a traditional leather military sling (and I really like that traditional appearance), but the AWS version is not leather. I believe it has a nylon core for strength, but you can't see that (only in cross section at the cut ends), since it's encased in their "biothane" material. The sling handles like a leather sling in terms of its stiffness/flexibility. The sling has absolutely no stretch to it; you can quickly adjust the length with the multiple holes, but it then strongly holds your desired length setting. But, unlike real leather, the "biothane" material has the grip of rubber, which is perfect for when using it as a carry strap on your shoulder. I once rode an atv down a trail with the rifle simply slung on my shoulder and it never slipped, which I was amazed by. And, the "biothane" material is waterproof and doesn't absorb water, so rain/snow doesn't affect it.

I think they also make a version that adjusts with a slide buckle, instead of the military-style holes, if that's preferred, but I haven't used that version.

The dark brown color looks like leather and looks nice on a wood-stocked rifle, while the black, olive, and tan colors can be used to coordinate with synthetic stock colors.

Regarding strength, according to their website, the strap's "breaking strength prior to hole punching is in excess of 2,300 lbs." and the "holes are rated in excess of 250 ft. lbs. tear out ratio."

I've used this sling while hunting for nearly a decade and it still looks brand new, no exaggeration.

When I'm backpack hunting, just a cheap 3/4" nylon one because most of the time my rifle's in my pack. When hunting from the truck or calling coyotes (when I'm carrying a rifle on one shoulder and a shotgun on the other) Claws are the only thing that stay on worth a crap. I'm probably going to something like an Armageddon Gear next year, just to simplify things when I'm carrying everything else on predator hunts. Multi functional, very high quality, and comfortable.

I have never had anything but the simple butler creek black 1" webbing straps. I have never seen anything with plastic buckles. All of mine have had metal slides. Since I got the Tikka last year, I have gone without and have been happy so far.

i have used both of these [currently have the slogan] the long wide sling does not slide through the keepers easily and is a pain. the short one is perfect.

they dont slip and you will think your rifle went on a diet.


i always wondered about these two products since both are from michigander country. did these guys have a falling out and split up?
