This is my first mountain rifle build and this is what I have so far:
Remington 700 AAC SR in 6.5 Creedmoor (Picked it up for under $500)
Bushnell Forge 3-18x50 Scope.
My plan for this build is to have a proof research barrel installed and also to swap the stock out. What would you recommend for a decently light stock that will fit the proof barrel? Any other suggestions or tips?

Thanks in advance!

The stocks that come to mind would be a McMilian, Manners, or AG Composite. The one that is most intriguing to me is the AG Privateer. Of the three companies I mentioned they are all in the $600 range.

What is your target weight? Carbon barrels are nice but most are a bigger contour. If you went with a SS barrel in a lightweight contour it will most likely weight less than the proof barrel still. Especially if you flute it.
All the stock makers suggested above make excellent light weight stocks. Find a model that fits you well and your needs.

I'd like to end up in the 6-6.5 lb range. What contour would you recommend to hit that weight with a carbon stock?

I'd go sendero lite contour. I really like the AG stock I used for my wife's 6.5 creedmoor. She wanted the thumbhole. Plus you can't beat the turnaround time. Only took me 3 weeks to get her stock.

A 24” sendero light in 6.5 weighs 3lbs. I assume you want to stick with the 6.5creedmoor. To get to your 6-6.5lb range I’d say you will need to go something like a brux/rock creek #1 or #2 fluted at 24” with a short shank. Even going to 22” would be a little lighter. There is a reason most mountain rifles are thin barrel and usually a slim stock design and most are ADL bottom metal.
I have not built a rifle that light so hopefully some people who have might chime in also.

Looking at going with a 22in sendero light. Does anyone have experience with the iota krux stock? Stockys offers a pretty good package deal with a proof barrel.

Just for reference, I have a build with 24in sendero light, lone peak ti short action, mcmillan edge, weighs 6# 2oz. The ti action is 8 or 9 oz lighter than remmy. So with a 22in tube you'll be around 6.5#.

I built an old Rem adl in .270. It started at 7lbs. 12oz. No scope and wood stock. I had an MPI Microlite stock built which came in at 13.95 oz bedded. I had wanted to buy a lighter barrel but ran short on cash so I had 4" cut off and re-crowned the factory barrel to get by for a while. Now it weighs 5lb. 4oz. no scope and 6lb. 5oz. with a 3-15 vortex RZR LH. It shoots so well with the short barrel that I can't see changing it.

I had a change of plans, I found a screaming deal on an x bolt hells canyon and sold the 700. Still want to build one someday but this was too good to pass up.

I like the KRG Bravo for a cheaper aftermarket stock option. They're light, cheap, and adjustable to most shooters. I keep going back to them.

I have a couple of Remington 700’s with Carbon Barrels. I can’t argue with the way they shoot!
