I've got the Gen I version of that rifle in .308. I believe it is the same stock, just finished in a different color. I would say you'd just have to see how it feels for you. I personally really like it, but the rifle is a little heavy overall for what some might consider a back country rifle. So I guess that also brings up the point of how you'll be using the gun will have a part in whether or not to replace it.

I just bought a 300 win mag 700 American wilderness rifle. It has 5r rifling and a grayboe stock. It has a stainless barrel and a slimmer contour. I got mine out the door for just under $1000.

I have a .308 5r (1st gen) and while it is awesome it does have some drawbacks. For hunting whitetails out of a blind or tree stand it's great. They are ridiculously accurate, it took very little load development to get one hole groups. I personally like the palm swell on the HS precision stock, but other people I know who have had the same rifle have swapped out the stock because of it. As for cons, I didn't like the trigger, and they are heavy. I carried mine around for a morning last year for antlerless mule deer season and was wishing I would have grabbed one of my Montana's instead. The AWR that Desk Jockey mentioned may be something to look at, if it is anywhere near as accurate as the heavy barrelled 5r's it would be worth it.

How does she shoot? What did she weigh out of the box?

I havent put it together yet. It will take me a couple of months to get it set up and to the range. They are reported to be sub moa shooters.

It is 7 lbs 1.35 oz naked out of the box.

Personally I really did not like the palm swell on the hs stock.

That's going to be a heavy rifle to pack in most elk and mule deer country. If you are willing to pack it, it is a good rifle though. I've got some time behind the .308 version, gen 1. It was a good shooter. I would not recommend upgrading the stock. I've got a very similar stock from HS that I put on a .300WSM and I like it. Brodie is right about the palm swell though, it's a bit different, like they bent it down and it flattened like a piece of conduit will do when it's bent. It's very wide, side to side. I have since switched to a much lighter .300 winmag when I'm not carrying a 45-70.
