You should take a look at the Zeiss Conquest V4 3-12-44. It is a lightweight scope with great glass and features an easy to use MOA based reticle which allows for precise holdovers. It's just a touch over $750 but good glass is well worth stretching your budget if you can swing it!

That is the scope I was just about to recommend. A Meopta Meopro 3-9 is another good choice, or a trijicon 3-9 with mil-dot reticle.

Better glass in the Meopta and Zeiss. The Trijicon Accupoint has permanent illumination that I really like so I own a couple of them. Otherwise, functionally the same for a lighter weight scope. I also like the non-BDC reticles that are just MILs or MOA.

There isn't anything wrong with the Leupold either.

Found this, seems to be a good deal?
What rings and bases would be the lightest and most bulletproof.
Thanks

I’m looking at purchasing the same rifle in 30-06. How does yours shoot? Did you change the laminate stock just to save weight or have other issues with it?

I have a Zeiss V4 on another rifle, great scopes. If I buy the mountain rifle I’m thinking about putting the new Leupold 4-12 freedom with exposed elevation turret.

Shoots great,i bought it new in 2004 i think, killed many of deer.I just sold a bunch of guns that never got used and decided I wanted one rifle,i could have bought a tikka or something else but decided to keep this one, just updating the look.
I really would like to find a vx3 2.5-8x36 b&c but they seem hard to find.Im going with a gap camo McMillan mountain rifle stock and will cerakote all the stainless.

Hard to beat the CDS-ZL on the Leupold VX-3i. It is a "set it and forget it" scope with the zero lock function, but can dial as far as you will shoot game if needed. I have the 4.5-14x40 on my "backpack rifle." Hard to get much lighter without sacrificing the performance you are looking for.

Any reason you went with that 4.5-14 over ther 3-10 vx3 other the power?
I like the extra magnification at the range for verifying my drop chart, but it is not needed for hunting. (Although I have never taken a shot more than 500 yds)

I picked the 30mm 4.5-14x40 because it has side focus. And there was very little weight penalty to get it.

Leopold just had a rebate on the vx3i. The scope was discounted and you got free alumina caps. I was bummed because I already bought the VX5HD. I would check Cabela’s/BPS and the leupold rebate website.

Would be a good idea to give the Rokslide sponsors a call and get a price over the phone once you decide what you would like to purchase.

4.5-14x40m Leupold VX3i with the B&C reticle is on my 280AI and my son's 6mm Remington Ruger MKII. I really like the scope and the reticle. It is simple and fast to use. You just have to shoot at the ranges up to 500 yards to confirm what power setting the scope needs to be on to match your particular calibers ballistics.

Coopsdaddy,
I own one of these (walnut & blued) in .280 Remington. I would recommend the Swaro Z-3 in 3X10X42 or the 3X9X36. Great glass that is light weight. The 3X9X40 Acupoint is an intriguing option. I would keep the scope mounted low and enjoy the good eye relief. If you hunt with horses, they should prove to be rifle scabbard friendly.
Nothing wrong with a 3.5X10X40 VX-3i as a light weight alteritive. So equipped you will have a nice rig by anyones standards.
